Epsom Salt Baths - Winter Warmers

What Are Epsom Salts?

Despite the name, Epsom salts aren’t actually a true salt. They’re a naturally occurring mineral compound made up of magnesium and sulphate. When used externally, Epsom salts can help relax muscles, ease aches and pains, draw out toxins, soothe the nervous system, improve skin health, and relieve back pain and sore muscles.

How Can an Epsom Salt Bath Support Hormonal Health?

Incorporating daily stress-reducing practices, such as an Epsom salt bath, can play a key role in supporting hormonal balance. When we're under stress, the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis is activated, triggering the familiar “fight or flight” response. If this stress response becomes chronic, it can disrupt reproductive hormones and interfere with ovulation.

One hormone particularly affected by stress is progesterone.

This is because both cortisol (our primary stress hormone) and progesterone are produced from the same precursor: pregnenolone. During periods of stress, the body prioritizes cortisol production over progesterone, which can lead to lowered progesterone levels over time. This hormonal imbalance may contribute to irregular menstrual cycles, fertility challenges, and issues with ovulation.

Soaking in an Epsom salt bath allows your body to absorb magnesium, which offers widespread benefits for both mind and body.

For added relaxation and therapeutic value, you can combine Epsom salts with calming herbs like lavender or chamomile. For optimal results, we recommend taking an Epsom salt bath 2–3 times per week in the evening to restore magnesium levels, relax the nervous system, support restful sleep, and ease muscle and joint tension.
